PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The aim of the project is to develop a new generation of cement-free alkali-activated binders as an alternative to classic cement-based concrete, in order to enable their application in sustainable green construction. Concrete is the most common construction material, and the omission of cement from concrete production significantly reduces CO2 emissions as one of the most significant factors among the harmful effects on the environment. Interdisciplinary research is focused on the examination of alkali-activated materials from various aspects – composition design, microstructure, structural application, durability and assessment of service life and sustainability of materials.
PROJECT RESULTS:
The project activities will contribute to understanding the properties of alkali-activated materials, predicting their durability and expanding the scientific database to enable the reliable application of alkali-activated materials in construction. Connecting and collaborating with thirteen doctoral students from different fields on this project will contribute to the training of scientific staff for further research and development of environmentally efficient construction.
